That about wraps up and hour of scripting together some PHP files -yeah I should get out more often. After installing the new MassBands Forum Board it was immediately flooded with Spam-bots. As most of you know, running a web site means having to deal with overwhelming amounts of automated spam that spews forth from various parts of the internets.
There was a couple plugin options for dealing with spam on my new phpBB board. Only one fit the bill as being the best though, unfortunately it’s far from plug and play. Advanced Block MOd seems like the number one choice when it comes to setting up a Captcha test and blocking some forum board spam. Though it is labeled as ‘easy’ to set up, expect an hour of adding in PHP snippets in about thirty different files, then uploading them meticulously. There’s a lot of room for error if you’re not careful, but I think I got it right. Anyone who’s used to writing long lines of HTML/CSS or other coding WILL find the whole procedure easy.
